Training a Scientist’s Mind Through an Artist’s Eye - workshop 3

Announcement
When
December 8, 2022 02:00 pm
Presenter(s)
Holly Schmidt and Brett Couch
Host(s)
Brett Couch, Holly Schmidt and Shelly Rosenblum

We’re excited to announce the final workshop in this series, in which Brett Couch and Holly Schmidt will present several fine arts-based observational and mark-making activities that have been implemented in specific labs and woven into the structure of an entire course. These activities were designed to be applicable to diverse types of labs where students make, interpret, or record visual observations, regardless of the specific organismal or disciplinary focus.

This workshop will take place on Tuesday, December 8 from 2:00-3:30 PM in the Biological Sciences building, room 4009.

Attendance will be capped at 25 people, so register today to reserve your spot! Note: you are welcome to join even if you did not attend the first two workshops.

About the presenter:

Brett Couch is an Associate Professor of Teaching in the Departments of Botany and Zoology at UBC and has developed labs for Eukaryotic Microbiology and has run a variety of organismal biology labs (eukaryotic microbiology, fungi algae, and bryophytes and mycology) over the past 10 years.

Holly Schmidt is the Artist-in-residence with the University of British Columbia Outdoor Art Program at the Morris and Helen Belkin Art Gallery. Her work focuses on human relationships with the natural world. You can find more information about Holly’s Sensorial walk workshops at the following sites:
