Note: If you changed your password recently and you were automatically disconnected from the drive(s), follow the steps here to update your password in Windows Credentials.
To connect to a network drive
- Go to This PC.
- Select Map Network Drive.
- Select an unused drive letter.
- Specify the folder file path: \\files.zoology.ubc.ca\userid, replace userid with your Zoology username. If you're using a UBC provided shared folder, enter:\\teamshare.ead.ubc.ca\team\ZOOL\shares\foldername, replace folder name for the shared folder you're given.
- In the CWL username field, enter ead\ before your CWL username.
- You may optionally check "Remember my credentials" so it connects to drive at login.
- Share drive is found under "This PC" in the File Explorer window.
Connect via smb in the Mac Finder if you're connecting to the UBC provided file server (teamshare.ead.ubc.ca)
- Click on “Go” in the top menu bar of the Finder window and select “Connect to Server” or hit command+K
- Enter the SMB address in the format smb://teamshare.ead.ubc.ca/sharedfoldername (replace with your actual shared folder name)
- Click “Connect”
- Enter your CWL username and password when prompted
Connecting to the zoology server (files.zoology.ubc.ca) via smb in the Mac Finder is not recommended. Instead, use the more secure sftp in the FileZilla client.
- Download and install FileZilla
- Open FileZilla and enter files.zoology.ubc.ca for Host
- Enter your Zoology username and password
- Port 22
- Click Quickconnect
- If there's a connection error, please check the password was entered correctly, or you are connected to the Zoology VPN, if off-campus
This section was created using an installation of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS.
- Click on the Places menu on the top left of the screen.
- Click on Connect to Server...
- Set the Service type to Windows share.
- Enter files.zoology.ubc.ca in the Server field.
- You will have to know the share name in advance as there doesn't seem to be any method of browsing the Zoology network.
If you just want to access your home directory, enter your Zoology login id into the Share field. - If you wish to save this information permanently, click on the Add bookmark checkbox and enter a name in the Bookmark name field.
The bookmark will be placed under the Places menu displaying the bookmark name you entered. If you have more than one bookmark, there will be another drill-down item call Bookmarks under the Places menu. - Press the Connect button.
- You will then be asked for a username, domain and password. Enter your Zoology login id in the Username field, ignore the Domain field and enter your Zoology password in the Password field.
You have a choice to make as to whether to have the computer remember these fields. Click on the appropriate item. - Press the Connect button. A window will open showing the contents of your selected network share.
