My lab studies the ecology of microbial eukaryotes and their interactions with bacterial communities. Microbial eukaryotes, or protists, are incredibly diverse and consist of many microbial lineages of amoebae, flagellates, ciliates, algae and parasites in addition plants, animals and fungi. We characterize microbial communities using high-throughput sequencing and aim to understand the factors that structure these communities. Our analyses use a phylogenetic framework to gain an evolutionary perspective on microbial community diversity. See the lab website for more information.
